Dear Parents / Guardians,

We hope you and your families are keeping well.

As you are aware our school has been closed since the 12th of March. The Committee, staff and faculty of Rockboro primary and Pre-school have been working for some weeks now on our plan for the safe re-opening of our school on the 31st of August.

We are implementing the recommendations of the Public Health Authorise and Department of Education and Skills. In accordance with these guidelines we have now published our schools COVID-19 Policy Statement (Please see attached). This will be followed shortly by our schools COVID-19 response plan.

The measures we will be implementing are aimed at risk minimisation of COVID-19 for pupils, staff, faculty, parents, families and the wider community and are predicated on two general recommendations:

1. Minimising the risk of introducing COVID-19 into the school community; and

2. Managing the risk of spread if introduced

The schools COVID-19 response plan will give details on:

  • Physical separation, signage, hand sanitation & respiratory etiquette.
  • Advice, procedures and training on the safe return to work in the school for all school staff and pupils.
  • General and specific advice on how all pupils, staff, parents and visitors will prevent the spread of the virus.

The COVID-19 response plan is a living document and will be updated as advise is issued from the Health Authorities.

Students at higher risk – While COVID-19 school policies can reduce risk, they will not prevent it entirely. Even with safety steps in place, some students with medical conditions may not be able to return to school. Please talk to your GP/Paediatrician to determine if your child can safely return to school.

During the summer months a complete reorganisation and declutter of the school was undertaken by a dedicated team of staff, faculty and volunteers. Starting Monday the 17th August a thorough deep clean of the school began and will continue over a period of 5 days by a specialist team of contractors followed by a fog sanitisation.

The re-opening of our School after almost 6 months of closures is a massive logistical operation. A key element to ensuring that our school remains open is for everyone in the school community (pupils, faculty, parents, staff & visitors ) to play their part in keeping the virus out of our school. We will all be called upon to co-operate by adopting behaviours in harmony with our schools COVID-19 response plan. Though this change for our community will be challenging it will allow for the vital work of teaching and learning to proceed with as little disruption as possible.

Very shortly we will issue another communication in which we will summarise the key points from the COVID-19 response plan that parents need to be aware of before school re-opening i.e hand hygiene, uniforms/tracksuit hygiene, school drop off & pick up etc. We welcome your feedback and comments as we progress with our COVID-19 planning in the 2020/21 academic year.
